Preparing for the new baby

Unbelievable, but there is like a month left until our due date.. Are we preparing for the arrival of our second little miracle? I guess we have, we have slowly gathered some things already for a while.. There actually is not much that you need for the second one, if you already have things from the first.
Still, last night for some reason I was dreaming, that am giving birth a bit early, and was freaking out, that don't have anything ready. :) There still are newborn clothes to wash through and fold, and put in the new dresser, and probably should pack the hospital bag, just in case, even though in Estonia you don't really need much to take with you.. Last time I didn't use almost anything of the things we had packed.

I have been knitting little cute booties for our winter baby though.. As well as some hats and a cute diaper cover. These will be for the first photshoot, hopefully.

Adelaide had too, pink ones. :)

Actually, I could write about the hospital bag.. What I packed the last time, what we did or didn't need.

This time we will take, that we used last time:

  • food!!! :D (we had some food last time, but with the birth lasting like 22 hours, more than 17 h in the hospital, Mr. Husband was starving, and even I was snacking at some point)
  • 2 water bottles
  • camera
  • laptop (if staying there for a couple of days, laptop is useful, but this time we might get home earlier)
  • clothes for the new baby to go home with (they give clothes for use at the hospital, but can take some extra, if you want to use your own), can take couple newborn diapers in case, even though they give those too
  • car seat (we have a new one, I should make a little post about this subject) and a lambskin sleeping bag for our winter baby
  • set of comfortable clothes to go home ourselves
  • only the basic hygiene products (I didn't use hairdryer, shampoos etc last time, because it felt better to take a real, long shower once arriving at own home. Basic stuff still need, of course. And towels they give)
  • don't need any nightgowns or robes, I liked using the comfortable birth house ones, and they got all dirty anyway, so it's nice to just give them away to wash :)
  • some slippers or inside shoes should have

That's pretty much it..

As for the things for the baby at home. We will need:

  • newborn clothes
  • cotton cloths - for everything, wiping milk and spills, and we used them for drying the baby as well, not using the towel for each diaper change
  • swaddles, couple nice and soft ones (swaddling worked for us very well with Adelaide, will see, how it will be this time)
  • newborn diapers (I am not going to have super tiny cloth diapers, so for the first weeks probably using disposable ones mostly, then moving on to cloth)
  • bath towel
  • Stokke flexibath with newborn insert (bath-time for two children sounds like fun..)
  • Stokke daybed - good for a newborn, who still sleeps a lot
  • wrap for babywearing
  • cotton swabs for cleaning eyes etc (almost the only thing that have to buy from the pharmacy)
That's almost all that I can imagine.. Newborns anyway only sleep and eat, and eat, and sleep, and poop all the time. :) We already have the extended family bed, where the baby will sleep.. Stroller we have, but not even counting on using it much in the beginning, more likely just am going to babywear. Of course, for a winter baby we need some warmer costumes and a sheepskin sleeping bag for going outside (we bought one, that can be put in the car seat as well). Diaper cream and D vitamin have still for Adelaide.. Hopefully don't need any more pharmaceutical products.

At first baby doesn't need even any toys or entertainment, I would like to fix up some Montessori-style mobiles, but there is time with that, in the very beginning, I believe, baby doesn't need that. (I guess, when it comes to newborn babies, I'm more all about Attachment Parenting (that all the baby needs are cuddles and closeness, and breast) than Montessori (perfectly set up baby-space, mobiles and so on.) It will be interesting to figure out the new arrangement of our lives.. How will it work exactly. This time the baby can't be just anywhere, because there's Adelaide, and can't also leave them alone..

It's quite exciting.. Can't wait! ;)
