Our one-year-old

After long time (last time was more than two months ago) we had a doctor's check-up for Adelaide. Nothing interesting was happening there, doctor was weirdly interested in how many words she is saying (like that matters for a one-year-old..), but she is:

9,350 kg and 76 cm

It's less than we thought, as our home scale showed something like 9,5 kg. It means she has gained 130 g since the end of March, which is not much at all, but at this age, if they gain anything, it's great.
And the height was 73 cm back then.. The measuring wasn't very precise though, she was kicking and jumping.

Interesting, that in the first months of her life, she was the big baby, as she gained a loooot in like the first couple of months. It slowed down already around 5-6 months, as she was 8 kg already in end of October. Since that she has gained very slowly, and all the other babies are passing her now. (Others are often already way over 10 kg in her age, and taller as well.) All normal, of course, I am only 162 cm tall now, and even though Mr. Husband is tall, his sisters are closer to my height. And as a child I was very petite.. So looks like Adelaide is going to be similar. She is strong though. :)

I don't think she is actually saying a lot of words.. Well, she says emme. (My child is Estonian!) Aitäh and Palun (only to Husband, or I don't pick up on them). Something like am am am, if about to eat. Husband also claims, that she says Ei taha.
She talks a lot of funny stuff in her own language. And copies some random sounds that we make.

But the coolest thing is, that she understands really everything, it seems! I remember looking forward to this.. Knowing, that she actually understands. And now it happened, it can be quite surprising!

For example:

  • Her hat fell off outside. I said: Where is your hat? And she immediately ran back to get it, brought it to me, so I would put it on!
  • If we say: sit or eat, or come with me, or simple things like that, she does them (mostly).
  • She knows, where all her clothing items go - if she gets her shoes, she tries to put them on her feet; if she gets her hat or headband, she tries to put it on her head; same with all the clothes.
  • I took her dress, gave it to her and said - lets go put the dress on! And she took it and was carrying it and going to the bathroom (where dressing up happens).
  • If I ask, if she wants to go read some books, she goes to the books and starts reading them. Same with most of the toys.
  • If I ask her to bring something to me, she almost always actually gets it and brings it.
  • She helps to weed the garden - pulls the grass (and the flowers) and puts them in a bucket.
  • She always helps to empty the dishwasher (also, if the dishes are dirty).
  • If we give her a paper towel, towel or a sponge, she wipes the table. Or the floor.
  • She brushes her hair (and mine). And wipes her mouth and ours.
  • If we say: lets go eat! She runs to her highchair and wants to get in. Sometimes also, if she just sees us preparing the food.
  • She can show parts of our face, like nose, ears, mouth, eyes.. She likes to show them on us more than on herself. On herself she always shows, if we ask, where is the belly button. :D And she can show all of those things both in Latvian and Estonian.

That's what comes to my mind at the moment..
So exciting! :)
