International Babywearing Week

This week (October 4th to 10th, 2015) is International Babywearing Week 2015!

International Babywearing Week is an annual outreach event sponsored by Babywearing International. It is a week-long opportunity to celebrate, promote, advocate for, and focus media attention on the many benefits of babywearing.
Remembering the summer.. In a trip to Haapsalu, babywearing is the best!
I'm all for babywearing! I seriously can't imagine life without doing it.. I'm sure it would be a lot harder and would involve a lot more tears, tired arms and many inconveniences.

As I have written here before, in the first three months we did it a lot. Many hours a day, every day. The sling was the only place she would sleep during the day, and especially - sleep so long, even for 3 or 4 hours.
If I think about it.. That was my plan initially. I wanted to use babywearing a lot in the first 3 months, which are the 4th trimester (baby needs extra much of closeness). Later, when the baby is more independent and also heavier, I could happily live without babywearing that much.

And that's how it has been. Magically, exactly around 3 months she started sleeping perfectly in stroller. It actually all came together: she was too heavy, and I was getting really tired, carrying around 7 kg for 3 hours a day; weather became colder, so we actually needed to start taking walks outside, and I prefer to do it with a stroller rather than wrap; and yes - suddenly she didn't need it that much anymore.

However, lately I have pulled my slings out again, time to time. If we go anywhere away from home, I always put the ring sling in the stroller, in case she wakes up. In a perfect case, if I go somewhere, I take both of my wraps with me.

This is how we look, when we go to do some autumn gardening. In Amazonas ring sling.
Even today, for example, I used both - while visiting a friend, Adelaide got sleepy, so where to put her to sleep? In the wrap, of course.
And when going out for a little walk, where to put her, when stroller is too big and too difficult to take with? In the ring sling.
We also went shopping, and she was happily sitting in the ring sling, worn by Mr Husband.

Also men can babywear. Baby is as happy :)
Yes, I actually use the ring sling quite often lately.

My summary - a classic wrap (I have Ellevill Zara) is perfect, when she is sleepy and/or needs to take a nap, and also - in a really tricky terrain, when a good balance is important (forest walks and climbing mountains).

A ring sling is great now, when she sits on my hip, is awake and wants to watch around. (Not for very long time, though, gets hard for both.) But great for shopping trips and short walks outside, especially in-and-out from the car.) I have two ring slings - Amazonas and Linalaps (Estonian local).

More summer flashbacks.. Using the Linalaps ring sling in a short sightseeing moment.
But why only about convenience? :) Yes, it is convenient. Because she loves it! She is happy there. Close to me, safe. In the middle of everything, seeing everything, mingling. And I love it too, I enjoy these cuddles, when she is so close to me, and I can be right there for her.
