New bike!

For Adelaide's 2nd birthday we decided, that it would be a good time for a balance bike. It's summer and around 2 years usually is a suitable time to start riding a balance bike. Mr. Husband's big family, godparents and friends chipped in for this gift, so thank you!
And we finally bought the bike (from Latvia), because we wanted to try it first. And good that we did! Because we were already totally set on Firstbike, but it proved to be still a bit too high for Adelaide, even in the lowest possible setting. And of course, it's important that she could sit on it comfortably. Adelaide loved the bikes in the shop, she tried a few.. And immediately liked a pink Yedoo one. :)

I actually had been looking at the Yedoo, it was a back-up option. We liked it in the shop.. It's even a bit lighter than Firstbike (3,7 kg), it's lower, so can be used by a shorter child.. And as we found out in Adelaide's 2-year check-up, she is:

11,8 kg and
86,5 cm.

Yedoo homepage says, that it's suitable from 85 cm, and pretty much looks like it too. She can exactly just reach the ground.

We actually didn't want a pink one at first.. :D But Adelaide liked it, and we liked this particular one.. And oh well, we have two girls, so why not? ;) So here's Adelaide on her Yedoo Limited Edition Magic Forest balance bike!

She couldn't wait, as Mr. Husband was still putting it together, once we brought it home.. :) And she helped too.

She knew what to do with the bike right away. Here I think it shows, that it was a very good idea to get her the Puky as a first bike! She loves her Puky a lot, rides it around the house (but it's not too comfortable outside, at least on not so smooth surface). At first I guess it was a bit too big for her, but since about being 1,5 years old, she loves it. She has learned to maneuver it very well. And there's not that much difference from an actual balance bike. Only, Puky stands up on it's own.

(We're still missing a helmet.) Today we took it for a ride first time around our home. (Till a spot that we usually walk to.) She rode all the way, I had to take and carry the bike on the way back, as she wanted to explore some things on foot.
I was actually impressed, how well she was riding.. Quite fast eve! And it's a funny video.. (Not really expecting anyone to watch it all.. :D ) I realized that she is talking again 50/50 Latvian and Estonian in it. (My language post is due.)

Oh, and well - some people still have the question - why balance bike?! (Instead of a tricycle, I suppose, or a bike with training wheels.) Seems pretty logical, I think - children actually learn to balance with the bike on their own right from the beginning. And later you just add the pedals (I mean actually buy a real, usual bike), and they can start riding it without any problem. At least I've heard, that that's how it happens - they already can hold the balance perfectly, so pedals don't change anything much. And riding a balance bike is fun, you can go really fast with it (on all the balance bike promo videos - see here).. So in the end there is no need for uncomfortable tricycles or training wheels. It's child-led and supporting natural development of balance. :)
