Explosion of language
When just like 2 weeks ago I wrote about our bilingual 18-month-old, I mentioned, that I had read, that somewhere after the child has around 50 words, she should get an explosion of language - a sudden burst of new words and jump in the language development. And then, even though Adelaide had around 60-70 words and new ones were coming daily, I wasn't sure, if it was happening yet.
Well, now it has for sure.
Since then, the situation has completely changed. Basically - now we have a child, who is able to communicate verbally! It's so surprising.. we can actually talk with her, she understands us, and we can (very often) understand her! :)
I had wanted to continue writing down all of her words, keep track of them.. But it is impossible! She says something new constantly, I can't keep writing them down immediately, and later, of course, I can recall only a few.
It is often enough for her to hear a word just once, if it's interesting enough, she repeats it right away. And also the pronunciation has improved a lot, many words are totally perfectly clear. We're thinking she has now some 200 words at least..
And she really has two languages now, I'd say in the same level (lately she has been exposed to other people more (Estonians), so especially Estonian has developed a lot, I have to watch out, that Latvian wouldn't stay behind.. :) Well, of course, once we are back to calm days at home, she will exposed mostly to Latvian again).
She has now quite a few words in both languages - like, she once perfectly said: pūce, and then öökull (owl in Latvian and Estonian), same with kaķis and kass, emme and mamma she uses both, and there are more.
She has already many two word combinations, possibly even three word.. Like saying - don't want (yes, now she's clearly saying, when she doesn't want something..); stomach full; then outside; cat's outside; knife fell down; the doll is swinging; please more.. etc. And she's counting to two perfectly, if she sees anything of two, she says - two cucumbers; two dolls etc.
