Still riding in ERF seats

I have written about Extended Rear Facing before, and it's one of those things I'm confident about - it's a lot (actually about 5 times!) safer for children to sit rear-facing in cars than front-facing. They definitely should sit rear-faced at least until age 2, but actually the longer the better, perhaps until about 4 years old or so.

All it took for us was to see the crash test video, read a bit about it.. And we decided that our children will sit rear-faced as long as possible. And so far (and Adelaide is almost 2) we haven't noticed any much of inconvenience. I guess our seats are pretty expensive, meaning, that it is possible to get cheaper front-faced seats. Same time, I don't even really know, how much front-faced seats cost, for sure some cost just as much. Also, our seats are really long-term usable.

Because, yes, Adelaide has a new car seat now! Now we have two Klippan's!

Adelaide has been using Klippan KISS 2 since birth. It's an amazing, comfortable seat, perfect even for a newborn, and she could still sit there for a couple of years (it's until 18 kg).
I have written about these seats before, there are also pictures of her in it.

With Jasmiina's arrival we were thinking, what to do next. We would need two of such seats, that's for sure, as we want Adelaide to ride this way for a long time still, she doesn't have any problem with it. Only a problem (yes, that in fact can be a problem with these chairs) - they take quite much of room in the car. Klippan KISS 2 doesn't fit behind Mr. Husband in our Ford Focus, when the driver's seat is in his position (he's 185 cm). It fits behind me though. So we thought we need a bigger car.. (Ok, this wasn't the only reason we wanted a bigger car, we anyway needed it, as with a bigger family we have more stuff and we are not able to travel light.)

We got a simple baby car seat for the beginning for Jasmiina (also Klippan, which is funny, we are such loyal customers..), it actually was comfortable to have the cradle type of car seat for a baby. Just until we bought the car. Now Jasmiina is already quite big and we thought it's time for her to go to the bigger seat already.

So now Jasmiina rides in Adelaide's old Klippan KISS 2. And Adelaide has a new chair - Klippan Triofix Recline.

This is a similar chair, but a bit steeper, as it's not meant for a newborn. It's from 9-18 kg as a rear-facing seat, and then can still be used as a forward facing seat until 36 kg, so almost all the way until child grows up.

We have tried it for a couple of times now and it's great. Adelaide doesn't mind it too. We put it in the same side where her seat always was and she didn't seem to notice the difference.

Maybe a minus of the seat, it seems, that you can only change it to the reclined position by taking the seat out. Meaning, you can't, for example, do it while the child is in there. But we tried the recline position today, it looks like it might even stay that way.. We'll see, which position Adelaide prefers.

And the funny thing.. This seat takes less space in car than KISS (in the upright position, in reclined it maybe takes as much), so.. it would have fit in the Focus too. :D But, oh well.
