Our little control freak

Today we had a doctor's visit. This time I came (mentally) prepared, so it's not going to be a post describing, how annoying it was. :D
(Yes yes.. Turns out, our almost 7-month-old should be eating at least two meals a day, porridge and veggies, and meat every day! And obviously she doesn't really want to eat, because we started feeding her too late. And I should be trying to feed her, when she is really hungry, because otherways she fills up on breastmilk and doesn't want to eat anymore..) :D

(FYI, who doesn't know, it's always suggested, even in the most mainstream of sources, to give solid food to a fed, not overly hungry baby. Because at first they don't understand, that food can make their bellies full, breast is for that. Trying to give food to a hungry baby can only end in tears and frustration on both sides. Only later they start understanding, that food is what eases your hunger.)

Anyway, our princess is 8,810 g (so she has gained like 370 grams in the last 1,5 months) and she is 70 cm tall.

Demonstrating her (still) 2 teeth! :)
But if talking about food..

She is not really interested to be fed with a spoon. (Even though I want to do BLW, we have tried giving pureed food with a spoon sometimes as well, as I hear some babies prefer that way.) Well, not our Adelaide. She doesn't like not having control in her own hands. She has to have the spoon! And she chews and researches the spoon on her own. (The food, of course, then is flying all over the place, and is ending up pretty much everywhere else than her mouth..)  Only option would be holding her hands down and forcing the spoon into her mouth, but that does not seem very human and respectful, so we are not going to do that. The tip of having one spoon for her and one to feed her doesn't work either, she has to have both! :)

This is how it looks like after an attempt to give a puree..
As much as I hear, some babies really are hungry and good eaters from very early on, and prefer being fed - they open their mouth wide and wait for the spoon, shaking from joy! (More often I have heard of boys like that..) And that's great. But each child is different.

Adelaide prefers to act on her own. When I offer her food in pieces, she is usually happy to explore and taste! And she knows that it's food - she puts it into her mouth (differently than other things and toys). Sometimes she likes one thing better than other, there has been nothing that she would really dislike. But the actual amount she eats is really tiny for now.

I must say, that I don't see any problem with her eating. She is getting plenty of breastmilk (and even though some old fashioned advice says that breastmilk is not enough, actually it is.. even up to 1 year of age). and we offer food to her almost every day.

She just has to get there, has to get ready to eat more and bigger amounts, and I'm quite sure she eventually will be a good eater.

From other BLW families I have read, that sitting on their own and eating really goes hand in hand - that commonly babies start eating decently around the time, when they sit independently. (Which could happen even around 9-10 months.)

Apart from the big food subject, nothing much is going on around this paradise island, some rewinding from the holidays, trying to stay healthy in this winter cold. (It was -19 C this morning and is around -17 C now..) Adelaide has gotten some runny nose, but it's already a lot better than couple of days ago (only remedy that we used was breastmilk in her nose, works wonders!).

Had some friends visiting yesterday. It was nice, Adelaide enjoys society, even if she sleeps during most of the visit! :)

I realised, that many of her new toys she will be using a lot later. (At least how they are meant to be used..) Because some of them were a decent challenge even for her 21-month old friend. (Who is really smart.) It's not a problem, however, as she can use them her own way already now.
