Finally, the learning tower! DIY

Mr. Husband had a whole list of things to make for Adelaide.. And the last one (for now) is finally done - now she has a real, decent Learning Tower! :)

What is a learning tower? It's used in Montessori homes.. And it's pretty much this - a safe chair to stand on and help in the kitchen (with railings).

So far Adelaide was using a chair (as seen here). Height-wise it was working fine.. But she did fall a couple of times. (Thankfully, she didn't get much hurt.) Of course, if there's a lack of space or so, chair can work just fine to reach higher surfaces.. But to avoid the falling as much as possible, the learning tower is a lot better. And after just one day of using, I can say, that it truly is! It seems so much safer than just a chair, she seems so much more comfortable there and more free to move. Also, it's light and easy for me to move around, if necessary, actually easier than the chair. So it was definitely worth to make one!

As the most easiest and cheapest way, Mr. Husband chose to do the popular IKEA hack version, which is all over the internet (he used this tutorial). We're not any IKEA people.. actually, the stool that's used for the bottom of the tower, is the only IKEA item we have. But it actually is really good.

Here she goes up the tower..

And down the tower. :)

And Adelaide truly loves her tower! :) She immediately liked it, and even though she didn't mind the chair, she was always taking it and pushing it towards the "helping" area, saying: pa, pa or palīīdz (to help in Latvian), it's her favorite thing to do, besides reading books. But the tower.. She was chilling in it. :D

And it seemed, she realized, it is made personally for her, and that it also makes things even more accessible for her. For example.. I have allowed her to stand on the chair only in this particular spot. But today she somehow discovered, that she can get to the sink.. Pushed her tower there and was having fun (sink can entertain for a good half an hour), while I was doing some pre-Christmas cleaning.
