Shape Sorter

I got her this shape sorter.. a couple of months ago. She liked it at the beginning, however, being about 17-18 months old, she couldn't really do it. She was trying to put random blocks in random holes, but not making the connection of the shapes. So it made her quite frustrated, I had to help her.. It was too early for the shape sorter.

P.S. The green things from the treasure basket - Adelaide has so generously lined them all up for Jasmiina to play. :)

But, if I remember now correctly, it was exactly then, when I told her some of names of the shapes - for example, roundy, or a circle (apaļš in Latvian), and it has been one of her favorite things/words for a couple of months now. At first she just thought that any shape (circle, triangle, whatever), is apaļš, but with some time she got, what it means (I mostly showed it to her, when we were drawing together), so she started seeing circles everywhere and pointing them out, and drawing them herself as well (her drawing skills have goon to the next level, the lines turned into circles and more).

This is an actual "Cat". You can even recognize the whiskers..
There wasn't really any interest in the shape sorter though, and I already wanted to put it away and bring it back out again later.. (As you shouldn't have things out, that are too hard for their development stage and are making them too frustrated.) But then, just a couple of days ago, she took it, and was totally able to do it! At first a couple of shapes were causing a bit of a problem, for example the triangle, that she was trying to put in the wrong way, but with a little bit of practice, she has totally mastered it now! I was impressed.. And just looking at how she was doing it over and over again, taking the shapes out and putting back in again. (Looking.. Quietly, holding my breath (and my camera :D ), not disturbing her and not praising her.. As her own joy of her success is better than a simple praise.)
